PaperArtsy Topic 12 - Hybrid Inks

I'm back with a PaperArtsy challenge. I skipped (or didn't submit) a few challenges because I'm still in the creative crisis "phase".

The latest topic is Hybrid Inks. This is a page in my art journal:

PaperArtsy topic 8 - Assemblages

I'm slightly behind with my PaperArtsy challenges - three topics or so... I've been very uninspired recently... Luckily, there are no challenges now, so I might be able to catch up.

The last topic before the break was Assemblages. This is my take on the theme.

PaperArtsy Topic 5 - Blue and Ochre

The newest PaperArtsy topic is Blue and Ochre. I made a very colourful page inspired by this blog post:

I started with a collage of torn deli paper. I sprinkled two sheets of deli paper with Infusions - one with Royal Blood and the other with Golden Sands. I tore the paper into pieces and glued them randomly over my page.

Then I added a bit of Fresco paints - Blueberry, Smurf and Butternut.

Finally, I stamped some flowers and other flowery shapes (from Tracy Scott's stamp sets ETS06 and ETS07 - I will put a link here once I find them in the shop) on white cardstock, cut them out and coloured them in.

... six episodes of Broadchurch later... Geez, this is supposed to be therapeutic? I've always hated colouring books...

To finish it off, I added a quote from Emma's set EEG17.

PaperArtsy Topic 4 - Doors, Windows and Architecture

The 4th PaperArtsy topic was Doors, Windows and Architecture.

I was suffering from a lack of time and inspiration so I was only working on a couple of unfinished backgrounds. First, I made this page:

I didn't submit it because I didn't like it much.

The other background I finished was this:

Oh well... I really need some room to breathe and restart...

PaperArtsy 2017 Topic 3: Paint with Infusions

The newest PaperArtsy topic is Paint with Infusions. I'm so in love with the Infusions powders. I love their versatility and their vibrancy. I can't wait to get my hands on the new colours.

For this challenge, I made this journal page:

I used the Infusions to create a subtle background. Then I stamped some other elements to the background using Lin Brown's stamp sets (ELB29 and ELB30) and acrylic paints.

I cut the backgrounds a bit smaller than the size of the page to create a border.

Finally, I stamped the leaves (also from Lin Brown's ELB29) on grey cardstock  cut them out and glued them to the page.

PaperArtsy 2017 Topic 2: Masks

For the latest PaperArtsy challenge - Masks - I decided to do an experiment with Infusions.

I like to start my journal pages with a layer of tissue or deli paper. Here, I put a mask on a wet sheet of tissue paper, sprinkled some Infusions on top and sprayed it with water. I used regular paper to blot off the mess on top - getting a great result here too. When I removed the mask, I was left with a very nice pattern.

I glued the tissue paper to my journal page and added some paint across the white edges.

Finally, I stamped the foliage using Lin Brown's ELB04 set and the quote using Words Plate 2 set.

I made several different backgrounds with different masks and stencils.

I got many prints for the price of one - the actual tissue paper (middle), the blot-off paper (left), and also the under paper (right).

PaperArtsy 2017 Topic 1: Pink and Orange

New year, new journal, new set of PaperArtsy topics... The first one is "Pink and Orange".

This topic came a bit later in the month of January. I was very eager to start creating in the first days of the new year. I made a traveller-notebook-insert-style journal. I decorated the covers and made a couple of backgrounds and waited patiently for the "official" prompt.

Here is the page I created:

I used various acrylic paints for the background - you surely know the feeling... looking at your paint collection and there is not the right kind of pink and not the right orange to go with it. [sigh]

I stamped the patterns with Distress Paint. Something I like to do with these paints because they are liquid and also they dry a bit longer so you have time to fix the stamping mistakes.

I'm so looking forward to getting some of the new stamp sets from PaperArtsy - they are gorgeous. I should also get some more Fresco paints colours - pink, for example.

PaperArtsy 2016 Topic 24 - Mail Art

I'm here with the final PaperArtsy topic which is Mail Art. I missed the previous three challenges - but wrote a short post about them if anyone's interested.

With this topic, I knew I wanted to incorporate envelopes on my journal page rather than decorate an actual one.

I created a template for the envelopes and cut them out of cardstock. I didn't want the page to get too bulky so I only cut the parts/flaps that would show.

Here are some details. I used Infusions and Distress inks for the background. I did some stamping and also some stencilling.

Finally, I added a tag (I believe this is a Stampendous stamp - I had the tag all stamped and inked in my stash) and a quote from Tim Holtz's phrases sticker sheet.

So, that's it for this year. My PaperArtsy Journal 2016 is (almost) finished - I still have one page (or maybe two) to work on. When I'm done, I plan to record a flip-through video and post it on my YouTube channel.

PaperArtsy 2016 Topic 21, 22 and 23 [updated]

Topic 21 - Typography, fonts, quotes

I did a guest blog post over at PaperArtsy for this topic so I was out of ideas for my "regular" journal page.

I made four quick backgrounds. I started with the Infusions powders, then I stamped some images on top, first tone-in-tone, then using darker ink.

Then I cut the quote on my Silhouette Portrait machine. (For some reason, this was the day my cutting machine wasn't cooperating. It does that sometimes. That's why I start to dislike it...)

I cut the backgrounds into smaller pieces add glued them under the cut windows. Finally, I outlined the letters and the page edges with white gel pen.

Topic 22 - Alcohol inks and pens

I'm not a fan of alcohol inks. I don't really struggle with this medium...

First, I created some ink splotches. Then I added some stamping and embellishments.

I called it a day but I still think I might return to it and add a quote or something...

Topic 23 - Bleach Techniques (unfinished)

I took blue cardstock. The only bleach I had was in powder form (the one you add to your washing), so I diluted it and sprayed it over the paper and let it drip. It looked dull, so I sprinkled a bit of Royal Blood Infusions powder over it. I heat embossed the grass.

Then I had an idea I needed to "seal" the background and went over it with clear gesso - which reacted with the Infusions powder and created visible brush strokes. So I added more brush strokes deliberately using a mixture of gesso and the powder.

And then I got stuck. I have no idea what to do next. To be continued (or maybe not).

[Update]
I went in and added a quote and some "snowflakes" (or whatever they are).

So, that's it.

PaperArtsy 2016 Topic 20 - Squares and Grids

The new PaperArtsy challenge/topic is Squares and Grids. This time, I was determined not to miss the deadline again... Last time I was writing the blog post at the last moment and then the life got in the way and suddenly it was after the deadline...

So here is my journal entry.

PaperArtsy 2016 Topic 19 - Die cuts

This fortnight's PaperArtsy topic is Die cuts. My entry is inspired by Seth Apter. A while back, I nearly took a class with him - but somehow, the odds were against it and I couldn't go to England...

PaperArtsy 2016 Topic 18 - Autumn Leaves

It's that time of the year... the days get shorter, the world around you turns into this beautiful warm colour palette, the spiders crawl inside your homes and I take out my leaves dies and stamps. The current PaperArtsy theme is Autumn Leaves, so why not make some paper leaves!

I was finally able to get some of these tiny bottles of happiness. When they arrived, I dropped everything and tested them straight away. I'm in love! (and I want them all!!)

After making a pile of paper leaves, I decided to use them on some other project and started something different for this challenge. I mixed the Infusions with gloss gel.

And stencilled the mixture through the negatives that were left from die-cutting the leaves. (the thin metal dies I'm using are from Clearly Bessoted - but I believe they are discontinued now)

After the paste dried, I added more Infusions to the background.

Then I stamped some flowers to the background using Distress Inks. (the stamp is from Lin Brown's ELB04)

First, I wanted to add some shading around the leaves but then decided to highlight them with white gel pen. It looks so much better!

Finally, I glued the pages to my PaperArtsy journal and added some word stickers.

I had so much fun with the Infusion powders. Now I'm off experimenting!
