PaperArtsy 2016 Topic 15: Beads,Charms and Dangles

For the newest PaperArtsy topic - Beads, Charms and Dangles - I decided to alter a couple of CDs.

I have a lot of these blank CDs in my stash. These can be found at the bottom of the spindle packs. Some are transparent, some milky, some are black. And they are ideal for altering.

I have quite a few altered CDs hanging here and there in my apartment from the time when I was making a lot of the "Celtic" art. Some of the CDs are the from my mixed media beginnings.

CD #1
I covered the CD with a crumpled deli paper to get some texture. I applied some colour using various Fresco paints. Then I stamped it with my favourite background stamp (numbers stamp from the Gentleman Plate 4 set). To add more interest, I stencilled butterflies using golden texture paste.

Then I added some embellishments - flowers (from the EDY09 set) and some textFinally, I added Glossy Accents over the embellishments.

CD #2
I did two CDs because I didn't really have a plan so I hoped at least one would turn out fine. This is the second. I started with black gesso. I stencilled some shapes, added few chipboard "branches", then some flowers and a Tim Holtz quote band. I also applied some heavy-body gel to add more texture to the flat background. Then I went over it with black gesso again.

The final step involves wax pastes - I'm using a Hungarian brand Pentart. Just put a bit of the paste on your finger and rub it gently over the raised areas.

I really like the metallic effect of the wax pastes on black surface.

Hope you enjoyed this simple project, see you next time.
